Majority of Galway’s secondary school teachers to take industrial action
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Hundreds of secondary school teachers across Galway are to take industrial action after the ASTI rejected the government’s proposed pay deal.
63 per cent of the union’s 17 thousand members have voted to reject the Haddington Road agreement, which would abolish some of their allowances.
Secondary school teachers will now take industrial action and another 14,000 teachers may join them when the results of a similar ballot by the TUI are announced later.
Galway ASTI representative Noelle Moran, who teaches at St.Jarlath’s college in Tuam, told FYI Galway it’s too early to say when the industrial action will be or what form it will take.
