Major Tuam employer to cut 60 jobs

Galway Bay fm newsroom – One of Tuam’s major employers Transitions Optical is to cut at least 60 jobs
The company has a total staff of 170 at its plant on the Dunmore Road
Workers were told at a meeting today that manufacturing volumes need to be reduced
In a statement to Galway Bay fm news Kevin Minton, Plant Director, said manufacturing volume will be moved to Asia to look after clients there, while the remaining manufacturing done in Tuam will be for European customers
It’s expected that redundancies will be completed by the end of the year and the company has promised a generous severance package
