Gardai are offering a substantial reward for information on the whereabouts of a man as part of a renewed investigation into the murder of a young woman in South Galway six years ago.

Crimestoppers launched a new appeal this afternoon to track down John Griffin of Cardinal Cushing Road in Mervue.

The remains of 23 year old student, Emer O’Loughlin, were found in a burnt out caravan in a field between Tubber and Kinvara in April 2005.

Tests carried out following an exhumation of her remains in May 2010, revealed she died in a sudden and violent manner.

Gardai have since carried out over 250 interviews.

44 year old John Griffin now appears on the wanted list both in Europe’s blue star record and the Worldwide red star listing.

He was last seen in the Aran Islands and Gardai believe he may now be living in mainland Europe under an assumed name after a possible sighting was reported.

The crimestoppers number is freephone 1800 25 00 25.
