Major new jobs package for Galway

The city could be poised to bounce back in the medicare sector — following the news of the Abbott closure last month — when Enterprise Minister Micheál Martin visits NUI Galway on Monday morning.

Minister Martin is coming to town to announce a major research collaboration between the Beckman Coulter company and NUI Galway. The project — which according to informed sources is expected to provide ‘a significant employment boost’ for the city — will have a major involvement from NUI Galway’s National Centre for Biomedical Engineering Science.

According to an informed source, this will be a major collaboration and industrial partnership between the research department of the College and a private company. “It is expected that the Minister will announce major grants for the College when he opens a new research department for the national centre for bio-medical engineering science,” said the source.

IDA Ireland are also prominently involved in the collaboration which could see employment numbers at the Beckman Coulter plant rise to…..
