MAJOR HEART SURGERY NOW BEING PERFORMED IN GALWAY

Major heart surgery is now being performed at University College Hospital for the first time ever

The HSE West revealed today that five surgeries have been completed in the last two weeks

This means that heart patients along the entire western seaboard will now be able to avail of heart surgery in Galway, instead of going to Dublin or Cork

When fully operational in 2008 the Heart Surgery Unit will have 6 Intensive care beds, 4 high dependency beds, 10 ward beds and two operating theatres, but only half these are in service at the moment
