MAJOR FUNDING ANNOUNCEMENT FOR GALWAY SPORTSGROUND

Connacht Rugby has got news of a major funding boost from the government.

The Department of Sport has confirmed it’s decided to award €424,000 to the sportsground to facilitate a major revamp.

The once-off grant has been awarded to allow the Sportsground to host home games ahead of the 2011-2012 Heineken Cup season.

The funding will be used to increase capacity, provide new terrace space, improve pedestrian access and provide extra toilet facilities.

The IRFU has already provided €225,000 to the stadium.

It’s hoped the work, which is already underway, will be completed before the end of October.
