Major flooding clean-up operation in Galway
A major clean up operation is continuing across Galway following following a night of storm force winds.
The City Council is distributing sandbags to businesses and homes to prevent further flood damage at high tide this evening (6.30pm).
Leisureland in Salthill has been extensively flooded and will remain closed to the public until at least Monday, while the carpark close to Galway Atlantiquarium is still submerged with several cars abandoned.
Electricity etworks are still switched off in Salthill for safety reasons following flood damage.
ESB crews are still working to restore power to around four hundred customers in areas such as Moycullen, Roundstone and Clifden
Meanwhile, 1,500 Eircom customers across Galway are without service.
The high winds also broke down a coastal protection wall erected in Ballyconneely in 1942.
