MAJOR CONTROVERSY OVER REZONING OF CITY LANDS
Date Published: 12-Jun-2007
City councillors have failed to agree on the rezoning of residential land at Briarhill in the city to make way for a major new shopping complex.
Last night’s city council meeting erupted into a shouting match and ended up being abandoned by Mayor Niall O’Brolcháin after four hours of debate.
Councillor Declan McDonnell had proposed that the land be rezoned in the city development plan but a number of councillors opposed the motion and prevented the chamber voting on the matter.
