The long-awaited development of pitches in the Westside of the city has been given unanimous support by Galway City Council.

At a special meeting of the City Council this evening councillors voted in favour of developing the facilities at Corrib Park.

It will include a natural football pitch, a synthetic 3G Pitch with flood lights, a mini-pitch and play area and parking.

Councillor Billy Cameron’s proposal to allow the pitches remain open until 11p.m, rather than the original proposed time of 10p.m. was agreed.

Councillors also voted in favour of Corrib Rangers Football Club and the City Council jointly managing the pitches, with the football club having the lead role.
