Macnas seeks musicians and money as it prepares for Halloween Parade

Macnas Theatre Company is currently preparing to set the streets of Galway alight with its second annual Halloween Parade which will take place on Sunday, October, 26.

It’s been a busy summer for Macnas members. They performed at a range of events at home and abroad, including the recent Wilderness Festival in Oxfordshire and for the President’s Garden Party at Áras an Uachtaráin as well as for Brigit’s Garden’s 10th anniversary celebrations in Rosscahill.

The move from a Summer to Halloween parade is proving to be successful for Macnas, according to Artistic Director, Noeline Kavanagh.

“We were thrilled with the response from the public last year, turning out in their thousands against storm warnings and heavy rain to be part of the magic.  We can’t wait to bring the art and heart onto the street again and deliver a spectacular parade for Galway.

Macnas will be collaborating with Youth Ballet West dancers, members of the award-winning Blue Teapots and a large number of professional and volunteer performers for the event. Members will also be joining forces with Galway Music Academy and “developing a sassy brass collective”, she says.

This new collective, which will be a vibrant feature in the parade, is seeking experienced brass musicians aged 16 and older. Interested musicians can email admin@macnas.com for further details.

The company, which was recently described as ‘unforgettable’ by The Observer newspaper in the UK, has big plans for Galway. But Macnas is still raising money to finance this year’s event and that drive will continue until Friday, October 10.
