Lydon Recalled To Midfield For Championship Clash

GALWAY senior football manager Liam Sammon has made two changes for his side’s All-Ireland quarterfinal clash with reigning champions Kerry at Croke Park on Saturday (4PM), with Moycullen’s Mark Lydon and St. James’ Paul Conroy handed starting roles.
While it was expected that Conroy would be drafted in to replace the injured Nicky Joyce, the inclusion of midfielder Lydon ahead of Annaghdown’s Niall Coleman is somewhat of a surprise.
Lydon had started the championship ties against Roscommon and Leitrim, but was subsequently benched for the key provincial final clash with Mayo. He did make an appearance, though, in that 2-12 to 1-14 victory when replacing the injured Joyce on 56 minutes.
Other than that, the side remains unchanged. Tuam Stars’ Paul Doherty will man the posts, with Garreth Bradshaw, Finian Hanley and Damien Burke listed in the full-back line. The half-back line of Niall Coyne, Diarmuid Blake and Gary Sice is also unchanged.
