Lunchtime treats from ConTempo

The Galway Music Residency continues its monthly lunchtime concerts with The Galway ConTempo Quartet at the Galway City Museum next Tuesday, October 6, from1:10-1:50pm.

ConTempo, which is celebrating its 20th birthday as a string quartet, is marking the occasion performing some of its favourite works throughout the 2015/16 season.  This month the quartet will perform Robert Schumann’s Op. 41, No. 3.  Written in 1842 and dedicated to his friend and colleague Felix Mendelssohn, this piece has been ranked among the composer’s finest works.

The series will continue on November 3 when the group will perform Johannes Brahms String Quartet no. 3, Op. 67. On December 1 the quartet will play  Bedřich Smetana’s String Quartet no. 1 ‘From My Life’.

The season will resume on February 2, when the four will present Franz Schubert String Quartet No.14, D.810 ‘Death and the Maiden.

On March 1 it will be Antonin Dvořák String Quartet No. 12 in F major, Op. 96 ‘American’; on April 5 they will perform Claude Debussy String Quartet in G minor, Op.10; on May 3 the concert will be Béla Bartók’ String Quartet No. 2, Op. 17. The season will close on June 7 with Mendelssohn’s String Quartet No.3, Op.44 No.1.
