Lunchtime concert puts Croatia in the spotlight

Galway Music Residency will present another instalment of its monthly lunchtime series, From Europe with Love, this week, focusing on Croatia.

These concerts are normally held on Tuesdays at St Nicholas’s Collegiate Church but November’s performance will be held this Friday and can be viewed for free on YouTube and Facebook. It will start at 1pm.

Although the concert can’t be performed in front of a live audience due to Level 5 Covid restrictions, Galway’s ensemble in residence, the ConTempo Quartet, will be performing live from Oughterard Courthouse.

This month, ConTempo are exploring the music of Croatian composer Dora Pejačević.

Galway Music Residency is dedicated to showcasing the music of talented female composers and Dora Pejačević (1885-1923) fits that bill.  A major composer, who died at 37 due to complications following childbirth, she left behind an impressive catalogue of 106 compositions.
