Luka Bloom in fundraiser for Hospital Arts Trust
Luka Bloom, Amazing Apples and the Galway University Hospital Choir are among those taking part in a gala evening of music and song at the Town Hall Theatre on Wednesday next, September 30, at 8pm. The event is in aid of Galway University Hospitals Arts Trust
The night will open with a performance from the Galway University Hospital Choral Society led by Seamus Leonard. Flute player Christy Barry – who recently received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to music at the Doolin Folk Festival – will follow with his band. They are Conor McCarthy, James Devitt and John Faulkner.
Folk singer Luka Bloom is taking time out from his national and European tour for the concert, while other performers include acclaimed fiddle player Mick Conneely and Mary Bergin, one of Ireland’s greatest tin whistle players. Galway’s Amazing Apples who round off the event evening in their enthusiastic and rhythmic style.
“This is an excellent opportunity to hear some of Galway’s finest musicians and learn about the work of the Arts Trust,” says Margaret Flannery of GUH Arts Trust. “The Trust believes access to the arts promotes well-being and enhances the hospital environment for patients, their families and staff. We will provide information booklets on the night to demonstrate some of the current projects.”
