Ludden heads late equaliser

MERVUE United earned a dramatic point in the League of Ireland First Division on Saturday night, after a late Mark Ludden equaliser saw their depleted side draw with Athlone Town at Lissywoollen Stadium.

The city side were missing the services of Mixie Harty, Nicky Curran, and David O’Dowd due to Harty’s wedding earlier the same day and, with three players on the injury list, Mervue manager John Glynn was delighted by the strength in depth of his panel for what was a tough assignment in the circumstances.

After a fast paced opening quarter, the home side opened the scoring on 18 minutes when Robbie Hamm broke free on the right wing, and his cross was met by Kevin Willamson at the back post who made no mistake from close range.
