Low voter turnout for referendums in Galway
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Voter turnout for the referendums at polling booths across the city and county is low so far today.
The average turnout for the Seanad and Court of Appeal referendums is between 4 and 6 percent.
However, in some parts of the city, voter turnout is a bit higher at between 10 and 12%.
174 thousand people are registered to vote in Galway city and County.
There are 58 polling stations at 15 venues in the city including Tirellan, Mervue, Renmore, Knocknacarra, Castlegar and Ballybane.
There are 159 polling stations altogether in Galway West and 154 polling stations in Galway East.
Polls opened at 7 o’clock this morning and will remain open until 10 o’ clock tonight.
Gaway registrar Marian Chambers Higgins says she expects voter numbers to increase later in the day.
