Loughrea’s Ultan Conlon released the brilliant Last Days of The Night Owl in April and, after a busy summer, will make a welcome return to the City’s Black Gate on Francis Street, on Wednesday, October 17. it’s worth shaking up your midweek routine to see them in action in this intimate venue,

Ultan’s latest single is A Weak Heart Like Mine, a duet with the sublime Mary Coughlan.

She had heard The Lumberjack, You and Me on John Creedon’s RTÉ radio show in 2016 and emailed Ultan saying how much she liked it.

“Since then I’ve been opening some shows for Mary and joining her on stage with her band,” he says. “She suggested A Weak Heart Like Mine would be a great duet. I wasn’t going to argue, so here we are. Happy days! All anyone has to do is hear Mary sing at a show – she’s an amazing artist.”

Ultan has toured US with his music but this year, the shows closer to home are the ones that have stood out.

“We sold out Whelan’s for our album launch, and had a great night in Róisín Dubh, and opening for Bryan Ferry at The Trinity Sessions,” he says of their gigs in Dublin and Galway.

“Also, the UK tour with Mary Coughlan, finishing up at Liverpool Philharmonic was an experience and a half.”

Expect to hear songs of serious calibre at the Black Gate on Wednesday week. Tickets €10.
