LOUGHREA WATER PLANT GETS GO-AHEAD
Date Published: 03-Jan-2008
Water supplies in Loughrea and the surrounding villages in East Galway are to be transformed when new infrastructure is built this year.
Galway county council has got the go-ahead to build a new water treatment plant at Knockannima, and two new reservoirs at Mountpleasant and Knockadickeen on the Tynagh Road.
Planning permission was also granted by thecounty council for a new water pipeline from Loughrea Town via the Masonbrook Road to Tynagh Village and on to Killimor.
A branch water pipe off this pipeline will also bring water supplies to Kilreekill Village.
The move is expected to increase housing development in the area which is currently restricted because of the poor water supplies.
County councillor Pat Hynes says the new water supplies are good news for people living in those areas
