LOUGHREA PROTEST AGAINST CUTS TO RURAL SCHOOLS

A major protest against planned cuts to rural schools across Galway is to take place in Loughrea this Saturday [Mar 24].

It follows the government’s decision to increase the pupil teacher ratio as part of cost saving measures.

It gets underway at 2pm Saturday and organisers also plan to hand in a petition to Minister of State and Galway East TD Ciaran Cannon’s office at 3pm.

Speaking to Galway Bay fm news, local campaigner and school principal Liz Mulry says people need to stand up for what is a vital part of rural communities.
