LOUGHREA GARDAI ISSUE WARNING FOLLOWING SPIKE IN BURGLARIES

Loughrea Gardai are warning homeowners to be vigilant following a sharp rise in the number of burglaries in the region.

19 burglaries took place in the Loughrea area between June and September, compared to seven in the same period last year.

At this weeks meeting of the Joint Policing committee meeting in Loughrea, Superintendent Enda Walsh described the increase of burglaries as a ‘serious problem’

Three burglaries took place in June, four in July, eleven in August and one already this month.

Superintendent Walsh said entry was gained to premises through unlocked doors and windows, and appealed to householders to be more careful in securing their premises.

Sergeant Tom Waters advised that a crime prevention officer was available to give advice to residents on the matter.
