Date Published: 18-Feb-2010

The trial of three Dublin men charged with conspiracy to rob a man in Loughrea of ten thousand euro has been withdrawn from a jury at Galway Circuit Criminal Court.

After lengthy legal argument, Judge Raymond Groarke directed the jury foreman to find all three accused not guilty of the conspiracy charge.

29 year old James Clancy of 3 Kiltalown Walk, Tallaght, along with 29 year old Wayne Keogh of 179 Forest Hills, Ratcoole, Tallaght, and 24 year old Gavin Dalton of 9 Rathminton Close, Tallaght, all denied a single charge of conspiring to rob 10,000 euro from an elderly man at Main St, Loughrea on January 30th 2008.

Prosecuting barrister Conor Fahy told the jury it would be alleged one of the accused was in the bank and saw an elderly local man withdraw 10,000 euro in cash.

He was seen texting and shortly afterwards one of the other accused entered the bank and stood in a queue watching the elderly man.

Following legal arguement in the absence of the jury this morning, Judge Groarke withdrew the case from the jury and directed them to find all three Tallaght men not guilty of the conspiracy charge.
