Joe Loughnane's last poster before its removal in Moycullen.

A general election campaign poster was removed by Galway County Council last week – six weeks after the legal deadline for posters to be taken down!

The General Election was held on Saturday, February 8, and by law all election posters should be removed within seven days of the polls closing. That meant that all posters – and plastic cable ties – should have been taken down on Saturday February, 15.

But this poster, pictured, supporting People Before Profit candidate in Galway West, Joe Loughnane, was still adorning a lamppost on the Mountain Road in Moycullen over a number of weeks this March.

Galway County Council has confirmed that following a complaint, a community warden inspected the area and removed the election poster from a field last week.
