Lough Atalia roadworks to begin next week

Works are due to begin next Monday on the road-lowering project under Lough Atalia Bridge in the city.

Next week’s work will take place within Galway Harbour Enterprise Park and will involve the laying of a drainage pipe along the road from the junction at the Harbour Hotel to a manhole near Topaz oil tanks on the east side of Lough Atalia Bridge.

The controversial one-way system and ban on right-hand turns will not be introduced until after the Easter Weekend, and will last around eight weeks.

The City Council began deploying Variable Messaging Signage across the city this week, and is expected to be up-and-running next week, providing advance warning to motorists on the system.

Tom Cannon of Tobin Consulting Engineers said: “The Works will require temporary traffic management to be in place where traffic will be reduced to a shuttle operation.

“A Traffic Management Operative will be manually controlling traffic on the site to ensure traffic does not obstruct access or junctions.

“We would like to apologies for any disruption that will be caused by the works and thank the public for their support and understanding,” said Mr Cannon.

He has been appointed Public Liaison Engineer to the project for the duration of the works and is available to answer any queries from residents, businesspeople and the general public from 9am to 5pm, Mondays to Fridays on 086 1666653 at lar@tobin.ie.
