Evoke...new EP out this week.

The negative impacts of the lockdown on those in the music industry have been well documented – but, for certain acts in certain situations, the past few months have proved fruitful.  And that can certainly be said for folk-pop quartet Evoke who release their debut EP Revelations this week.

The five-track project is the result of careful, considerate work that has benefitted from a lack of distractions. Throwing themselves into writing and recording, the Loughrea outfit have made plenty of progress away from the stage.

“It gave us a bit of time to sit down and write new music and I found that really good,” insists frontman Keagan Forde.

“There are two songs there that I wrote and a couple of songs that Evan [Forde] wrote as well and those songs definitely wouldn’t have existed without having the time and space to sit down and write them.

“We had a bit more time on our hands to just go recording… Once this EP is out in the world, we have two more songs ready to go straight away that we wouldn’t have had time for. In terms of the EP, we wouldn’t have had half as much time to put in the work we did.

“We got onto graphic designers from Limerick – to even sit down with Gavin Murray, our engineer, we used Zoom calls to get him to show us the mix and show us what he was doing. We definitely got to focus more and the songs wouldn’t be as good as they are if we didn’t get this time.”

Evoke are renowned for their live shows. The band have been prolific around Galway in pubs and venues and it is a shame not to be able to mark the EP release with a launch night.
