Local gymnasts sparkle at National Series qualifiers
A group of 65 gymnasts across various disciplines (artistic, rhythmic, and tumbling) from Renmore Gymnastics Club (RGC) took part in the National Series Qualifier competition recently in the National Indoor Arena, Dublin, marking a return to competition after a two and a half year absence.
Three members of the 37-strong Women’s Artistic Gymnastics team came home with medals, with Megan Gooney claiming gold in the U-13 L5; Sadhbh Kavanagh winning silver in the U-12 L5; and Tamara Vestenicka taking home the bronze in the U-11 L5.
“Our 37 Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) girls competed really well and did themselves and the club very proud,” said Caoimhe Murphy, WAG coach. “A huge well done to all the girls, for the majority of them it was their very first competition, and congratulations to our three girls, who came home with medals,” she said.
On what was a hugely memorable weekend, all six members of the club’s Tumbling team came home with medals, including Cliona McLaughlin from the city, who claimed silver in the senior women’s competition.
Molly Nightingale from Gort claimed gold in the senior women’s; Zara Horan from Clarinbridge, the club’s youngest tumbler, took home the gold in the 13-14 year category; as did Ailbhe Landy from Clare in the 15-16 years category; while Hugo Kinahan (Clare) and Cian Hayes (Limerick) took home gold and silver respectively in the senior men’s section.
