LOCAL COUNCILLOR WANTS PROTECTION FOR PEOPLE WHO REPORT CHILD ABUSE
Date Published: 28-Jan-2009
A local councillor is calling for protection measures to be put in place to ensure people who report child abuse are not victimised.
At yesterday’s Regional Health Forum Meeting in the city, Councillor Michael Mullins referred to a recent court case involving child abuse in Roscommon.
However, many local councillors, including Councillor Padraig Conneely say they’re could be cases at the moment in Galway and other counties.
Many members of the Forum wanted to know how the HSE would ensure that a similiar situation does not occur again.
Director of the HSE West Regional Health Office, Dr. Seán Conroy, said he would outline the guidelines for reporting suspected child abuse at the next meeting of the Forum.
Councillor Michael Mullins says it’s important people feel confident in coming forward with information on suspected child abuse.
