Local construction firm has built thousands of houses and apartments in Galway
O’Malley Construction – which has built thousands of homes in Galway and Dublin – is celebrating its 50th year in business.
The company was founded in 1971 by three Brothers from County Mayo and is unique as one of just a handful of housebuilders in Ireland to be constructing new homes after a half-century in operation.
It has built over 12,000 homes in both Galway and Dublin, and according to a spokesperson, this is a testament to the dedication and work of the many people who have worked on these projects.
O’Malleys has provided housing for close to 50,000 people between its private and social homes and continues to deal with second and third generation buyers looking to live in an “O’Malley home”.
“We earned a reputation for delivering high-quality homes with attention to detail both in the house design and throughout the landscaped scheme layouts.
“Over five decades, we experienced many changes in the housing market and the technologies used to build houses.
“During the 1980s, the country experienced record levels of financial difficulties. In Galway, Government tax incentives helped in the development of shops, offices and overhead accommodation right in the city centre and on lands previously used for Dockland activities.
“O’Malley’s was involved in the development of many landmark buildings in Middle Street, High Street, Cross Street, Merchants Road and St Augustine Street and construction of the Eyre Square Shopping centre in 1989,” the spokesperson said.
It was also during the 90s that apartment living in the city became popular and O’Malley’s developed schemes in Barna (Creagan), Salthill (Dun na Carraige) and Terryland (Gort na Coiribe).
