LOCAL AUTHORITIES HAVE YET TO CALL ON THE ARMY

Galway’s local authorities have not yet called on the services of the Defence Forces.

Troops in 17 barracks across the country have been put on standby to fight the freeze if needed.

An army officer has been made available to the councils to meet the needs of the city and county as they arise.
