Lively Galway Utd hit the goal trail in thrashing limited hosts
Wexford FC 0
Galway United 4
GALWAY bounced back from a heart-breaking opening night of the season with a resounding win on Friday night as two goals in either half saw them take all three points against Wexford FC.
Manager Alan Murphy made two changes to the side beaten by Shelbourne, with Cian Murphy and Donal Higgins coming into the team for Adam Rooney and Wilson Waweru respectively.
United started on the front foot, with Colin Kelly forcing a smart save from Joe Walshe in the opening minute; while Higgins was getting plenty of joy down the left wing, sending in a number of inviting crosses; and it was the 17-year-old former Maree/Oranmore player who opened the scoring in the 25th minute.
A ball over the top of the Wexford defence picked out Colin Kelly 30 yards from goal, and he nodded the ball goalwards in a bid to get past the last defender.
The defender managed to get a touch and direct the ball back to his goalkeeper, but it bounced just in front of Walshe, meaning he could only hook his clearance into the night sky, not even clearing his 18-yard box.
Kelly had continued running, and he managed to flick a header back towards the supporting Higgins, who controlled with his first touch, then skipped inside two defenders before curling a shot inside Walshe’s right-hand post.
