Little John casts dark eye on future for latest show
Drone Bone Jetty, the latest collaboration between theatre-makers Little John Nee and Laura Sheeran, will premiere at the 2021 Galway Theatre Festival which opens this Thursday, April 30, and runs until next Saturday, May 8.
The central character of Drone Bone Jetty is Puck Tyrell (Little John), an artist in a future dystopian world, where ‘art without artists’ is the desired aim. Together with other odd creatives, people who would ‘give an algorithm a headache’, Puck attempts to find meaning in a world that’s divorced from nature and humanity.
Puck, who is waiting for a boat, has had a recent run of good luck. First, there’s the allotment, then the free ticket to Heebie Jeebies. And then there’s the new job, as he’s become the latest recruit at the Academy of Holodramatic Arts. But then, an unexpected event steers his life in a different direction and he must employ all his skill and wit to escape danger.
This film/stage hybrid is directed by Laura Sheeran and the costumes have been created by Italian designer Ilaria Pellizarro, who has made everything from sustainable and reused materials.
