Little John and friends launch debut album

Writer and performer Little John Nee will release his debut album, Songs from the Lough Swilly Delta, this Friday, December 5, with a concert at the City’s Nuns Island Theatre. The Donegal man, a long-time Galway resident, will be joined for the show by the Caledonia Highly Strung Orchestra, who feature on the album,

Little John has won acclaim at home and abroad for his informal, engaging style of theatre that is a unique mix of storytelling and song and Songs from the Lough Swilly Delta features material from his theatre shows, recorded with the Caledonia Highly Strung Orchestra.

The CD includes songs from shows including The Derry Boat, The Mental, Dead Rooster Blues, Sparkplug, all of which have been given the ‘Highly Strung’ treatment.

The Highly Strung Orchestra features Fionn Robinson on guitar, Orlaith Gilcreest on vocals and clarinet, and Jeremy Howard on piano and Hammond organ, as well as Little John on ukulele and cigar box guitar. Songs from Lough Swilly Delta was recorded at Attica Studios in Donegal under the guidance of Tommy McLaughlin of Villagers.

The album will be launched this Friday night, December 5, in Nuns Island Theatre, with a concert from Little John and the Caledonia Highly Strung Orchestra. Tickets €10, from Galway Arts Centre, 47 Dominick Street, tel 091-565886.
