Little John and Caledonia Orchestra at Town Hall

Singer, musician, playwright, storyteller, and all-round talent Little John Nee will be joined by the Caledonia Highly Strung Orchestra for a concert at the city’s Town Hall Theatre on Saturday, January 16, when the group will present songs from their debut album, Songs from the Lough Swilly Delta, and more.

The mix will include a  mixture of comic blues and haunted ballads from various shows staged by Little John over the years, including The Derry Boat, The Mental, Dead Rooster Blues and Sparkplug.

They will be performed by LJ, accompanied by the Highly Strung Orchestra, all of whom are accomplished musicians and performers in their own right.

This mix of music and storytelling will offer a helter-skelter ride through a surreal but frighteningly believable rural gothic landscape, based around the Mother’s Arms Singing Lounge in Donegal, a quiet place where lonely farmers and weary travellers come to pass the empty hours.

The Caledonia Highly Strung Orchestra toured to Naples in Autumn and the show will feature their latest number, Napoli Adventure, as well as surprise local improv acts.

Their Galway show is on Saturday, January 16, at 8pm and tickets at €15 are available at tht.ie, 091-569777 and from the Town Hall Theatre box office.
