CITY TRIBUNE
Lisa O’Neill at the Black Gate
Cavan singer Lisa O’Neill will be in concert in the city’s Black Gate next Wednesday, December 18, concluding the venue’s series of Eclectics shows. These began in May with the Dublin-based performer, so it’s a suitable end to the run, according to Dave Boland who curates it.
Lisa O’Neill started writing songs and music at an early age in her native Cavan. She moved to Dublin at 18 to study music fulltime and was welcomed into the folk and traditional venues around the city where she won recognition for her unique voice, witty lyrics and observations on modern Irish life.
Since then she has become a regular at events such as Body & Soul, Electric Picnic and at venues countrywide, earning a reputation for her banter, old-style folk intimacy and raw, uncompromising style.
The Irish Times has praised her as a singer who ‘stands tall for difference, as an outlier with a mission to frame the world as she sees it and to perform it accordingly. Her voice is her own. No small achievement’.
Doors for next Wednesday’s concert in the Black Gate are at 9pm. Tickets are €20. Go to www.tickettailor.com and follow the Black Gate link.
