A limited office service is to be provided at Derrynea courthouse from next month.

The arrangement is being put in place to assist members of the public and legal practitioners as the administrative office is being transferred to the combined court office in Galway.

The courthouse sittings will continue as normal.

Court services have confirmed that from May 1st, the adjoining sub-office which is used for payment of court fees and fines, will close and transfer to the court office in Galway.

However, Galway bay fm news has learned a limited office service will now be made available in the court house on each Friday for the following three months and during court sitting days.

An existing staff member from Derrynea will work in the office, and the service will be kept under continuous review for three months.

The Court Services Board is currently reviewing outline court venues around the country and is putting together proposals on how to make them more efficient and also improve court services.

No decision has been made regarding court sittings in Kilronan, Derrynea and Spiddal.
