Limerick band Senekah for Monroe’s Live

Limerick band Senekah play Monroe’s Live on Friday next, June 14. The alternative rock group first fell into place in the latter half of 2005.

Vocalist Rob Hope and bass-player,Yvonne Conaty had been in a band which imploded.  Daragh O’Loughlin had joined as its drummer just before it fell apart. The remaining trio became a four-piece when they were blown away by Brendan O’Gorman’s guitar-wrangling skills at a house party and invited him to join. Senekah incorporate heavy guitar influence along with harmony driven vocals and stringed instruments including cello and viola. The band had their first gig at a local Battle of the Bands.

After a year or so of writing songs and gigging the next step was to make an album and, over the course of a year and a half, Sweeter than Bourbon was recorded in various bathrooms, bedrooms – and even the occasional real studio. It was released in 2008.

In Sweeter than Bourbon the band, dealt with social issues including domestic violence which is the theme of their song, Clarity

After touring the US, Senekah returned to Ireland to finish writing and recording a new album. The band knew Noel Hogan of the Cranberries through a mutual friend and he offered to produce. Recorded over the course of 27 days in the former Bishop’s Palace in Limerick, the new release, Human Relations is a step forward for the band in both songwriting and recording terms.
