Lights, camera, action for TV and film venture in Galway Airport!

From this week’s Galway City Tribune – It’s a case of lights, camera and action for a Conamara film and TV studio which is embarking on a new venture at Galway Airport that could deliver a big jobs boost for the region – and turn the city into a new mecca for production companies.

The backers of Atlantic Studios – a planned new film and TV production studio – predict that it could create up to 200 jobs in the industry and yield up to €20 million annually to the local economy.

If successful, the new venture could rival Ireland’s leading film and TV studio, Ardmore Studios in Bray, attracting Hollywood blockbusters to the West.

Planning permission for stage one of the project will be sought in the coming months for 40,000 square feet of film and TV studio space, along with offices and support facilities at the existing hangar at the Carnmore airport site.

The move to lodge a planning application comes after both Galway City and county councillors voted last month to a long-term lease of the property to Atlantic Studios.

In a statement, Atlantic Studios said it expected to yield between €10m and €15m annually to the Galway economy, while creating “between 150 and 200 production specific jobs”.
