LIGHTHOUSE SITE ON INIS MOR TO BE REDEVELOPED

The site of a 19th century Lighthouse on Inis Mór in the Aran Islands is to be redeveloped into a new complex.

An appeal against the development by An Taisce has failed, and An Bord Pleanála has given the project the go-ahead, subject to 11 conditions.

Michael and Elizabeth Mullan were granted permission by the county council last September to redevelop the Lighthouse and Signal Tower site at Oghil, the highest point of Inis Mór.

An Taisce appealed the decision but the Planning Appeals Board has upheld the county council’s decision to permit the project.
