Galway Bay fm newsroom – A discount supermarket in Clifden has succeeded in an effort to remove a condition of its planning permission.

Lidl applied to the County Council for permission to develop a delivery bay enclosure at its Clifden site and remove Condition 17 of its previous planning permission.

This condition related to the hours for loading and unloading of stock at the store.

The condition in question stipulated that loading and unloading at the Lidl store in Clifden only happen between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday and 8am and 4pm on Saturdays.

The discount retail company applied to have this condition removed.

It also sought to erect a 4-metre high acoustic screen the full length of the truck delivery loading bay and other noise reducing measures.

This was in a bid to extend the loading times at the store to any time of the night or day.

The Council has given approval for the proposal by Lidl in Clifden.

5 new conditions have now been attached, including the stipulation that the approval for deliveries at any time of night only be for a period of 18 months.

During that time, Lidl must keep a log book of the times of every delivery to the store.
