LICENCE FINALLY ISSUED TO COMPLETE ATHENRY ROUNDABOUT

Minister for the Environment, John Gormley, has issued a licence to a developer which will allow work to go ahead on a new roundabout in Athenry.

In 2007, a developer began building a roundabout at Lorro Gate, Athenry.

Part of the old town walls became exposed and a State archaeologist recommended building the roundabout above the remains of the walls.

The developer applied for a licence for the work from the Environment Minister, and has waited three years for a decision to be made.
