Patients who have been on waiting lists for treatment at Galway University Hospitals for more than nine months are to be contacted in the coming days.

It’s part of a new project led by Health Minister Dr James Reilly to reduce waiting times for procedures such as cataracts, vein grafts, hernia repairs and endoscopies.

As part of the validation process, patients will be contacted by letter this week to verify information and schedule a date for their procedure.

The initiative is being rolled out at University Hospital Galway, Merlin Park Hospital, Portiuncula Hospital Ballinasloe and Roscommon County Hospital.
