The Galway Arts Festival has announced the latest addition to the Big Top, with Singer-songwriter Christy Moore will be playing the Arts Festival’s big blue tent on Friday, July 20 for a stand-up gig which will see him joined by his long-standing collaborator, Declan Sinnott.

Christy Moore is one of Ireland’s most prolific singer songwriters with iconic songs like Lisdoonvarna, Don’t Forget Your Shovel and Ride On. He is also an interpretative singer of unique nuance, as he has shown on his versions of Bob Dylan’s The Lonesome Death Of Hattie Carroll and Ewan MacColl’s The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face. He has also shown his appreciation for modern Irish folk by championing songwriters like Johnny Duhan, Damien Dempsey and Dundalk firebrand Jinx Lennon.

The Kildare singer rates his performance with headliners Coldplay at Oxegen as a memorable experience, when hearing the sound of 80,000 young people singing along to Jimmy McCarthy’s classic Ride On. Christy believes that his collaboration began when the 12-year old Coldplay drummer, Will Chamberlain attended one of his gigs in Southampton in 1992.

Christy Moore’s work received further accolades recently when the lyrics of Lisdoonvarna were included in The Penguin Book of Irish Verse and he remains one of the most popular performers in Ireland.

Support for this gig is from Four Men and a Dog.

Tickets are on sale now at galwayartsfestival.com and roisindubh.net at €37.50 but a limited number of Early Bird tickets will be available at €35.00.
