Leenane to wait weeks

It will be several weeks before a temporary bridge can be built to restore one of the most vital links for tourism in the Connemara region that disappeared yesterday with the collapse of a century-old bridge in Leenane.
Engineers from the National Roads Authority and Galway County Council were today examining what options were open to repair the bridge and erect a temporary structure for pedestrians and light traffic. However a senior council official predicted that it will take “at least a few weeks” because foundations will be have to built as the remaining part of the bridge is unsafe.
