Led Zeppelin tribute band No Stairway promise uplifting experience

It’s not a stairway to heaven, but the steps up to Monroe’s Live will bring you to a seriously rocking Led Zeppelin night on Friday, March 10.  No Stairway return to Dominick Street venue, bringing the swagger and riffs that has seen this music endure since the 1970s.

Bill Dunne does a beat-for-beat job on John Bonham’s drumming, the sound that was once called ‘the hammer of the gods’. On bass, Shane O’Malley steps into John Paul Jones’ shoes. Like Jones, Shane also plays keys in the band, so anyone who’s a fan of the Led Zeppelin classic No Quarter won’t be let down.

“I don’t deal in technique, I deal in emotions” stated Jimmy Page, Zeppelin’s legendary guitarist.  That might sound cool, but you’d need to know your way around a six-string to be able to replicate those riffs and solos – and No Stairway’s Ronan O’Malley certainly does. A student of the guitar for a long time, he’s a player who can replicate the power and flourishes of Zeppelin’s music.

Last, but never least, is singer Steven Sharpe. A stalwart of the Galway music scene, this week Steven released the debut single from his soon-to-be -released solo album. It’s called Work, and was recorded with his band The Broke Straight Boys. It’s available to download now, so seek it out!

■ Tickets for No Stairway are €10/€8 online and the band hit the stage at midnight.
