Leaving Cert students celebrate ‘outstanding’ marks
This week was a big one for the Leaving Certificate students in Galway City who are planning their next steps after receiving their exams results.
There were scenes of jubilation at Yeats College on College Road, as students who completed their exams in June received phenomenal results . . . with a large number now confident of being offered their first choice of course when the CAO offers are made on Monday.
The Yeats College class of 2015 achieved excellent results, with numerous students receiving six, seven and eight As. An impressive fifteen students scored 600 points or over and a total of 41 students scored 550 points. Felipe Amaya, from the city, achieved the maximum 625 points and has plans to study Engineering at NUI Galway in September.
Mayo native Gavin Moore from Swinford also scored 625 points and hopes to go on to study Mechanical Engineering at NUI Galway.
And Megan McCarthy, a repeat Leaving Cert student from Oranmore, received an impressive 605 points, along with high scores in the HPAT (pre-medicine) exam. Overjoyed with her results, Megan is looking forward to studying Medicine at NUI Galway.
“We’ve had phenomenal results with higher level Maths this year and in the Sciences and I’m absolutely delighted with the performance and I’m very proud of all the students that have achieved so well in 2015,” said Principal Terry Fahy on the morning of the results.
St Joseph’s College (The Bish) also celebrated great success with two of its boys, Darragh Brett and Michael Murphy receiving over 600 points.
“We were very pleased in the Bish. Our Maths results were higher than the national average. The majority of our students got the results they had worked for,” said Principal Ciarán Doyle.
One student in Calasanctius College in Oranmore was overjoyed to receive seven A1s and maximum points, which is an extremely impressive result that brings great pride to the school. Principal Mary Nihill says the school is delighted with all of its students this year.
