LATE NIGHT STREET PERFORMANCES BANNED BY CITY COUNCIL
Date Published: 14-Jun-2011
Late night buskers have been banned from making noise in Galway city after certain hours.
A proposal calling for the outright banning of amplifiers or speakers was rejected however.
The city council last night voted unanimously on new street performance bye-laws which make it an offence to perform music after 11pm from March until October.
It will also be an offence to make noise from ten at night to 9 in the morning during the winter months from November to February.
Cllr Terry O’Flaherty called for an outright ban on amplification used in the city centre during last night’s meeting.
However Director of Services Kevin Swift said banning amplification was not going to be simple.
