Gardai have appealed for information in relation to a late-night assault in the city last weekend that left a man in his 60s with a broken arm.

The assault occurred on the street in the William Street West area of the city close to the Blue Note pub shortly after 2.30am on Saturday of last week (October 17).

Gardai are trying to trace the whereabouts of two young men thought to be involved in the incident and are in the process of examining CCTV footage.

It is understood that an altercation developed between the victim and the two men close to a city cab office in William Street West – the duo left the scene on foot, walking in the direction of Sea Road.

The injured man was taken to University Hospital Galway where he was treated before undergoing surgery for a broken arm.

A spokesman at Galway Garda Station has appealed for any witnesses to the incident to contact them at Mill Street Station on 091 538000.
