LAST DITCH EFFORTS TO RAISE FUNDS FOR GALWAY VOLVO BID

The group behind this summer’s Volvo Ocean Race finale will hold meetings with potential stakeholders in an effort to raise funds for a third Galway bid.

Let’s Do It Global is planning to meet with the local corporation, Galway Port, vitners, hotel owners and media organisations in the coming weeks.

If Galway is to be in with a chance to be a host port in the 2014/2015 race, a bid must be submitted by the end of the month.

This years event was heavily dependent on volunteer efforts, and organisers are still waiting for payment for certain elements of the event.

Galway TDs have declared their support for a future event, and are expected to raise the issue of Government funds at Cabinet level.

Speaking on Galway Talks, John Killeen of Let’s do it Global says it can’t launch the bid without firm commitment on financing.
