LARGE PANEL DELAYS TUAM TEACHING POSTS

ONE of the main causes of delay, in the redployment of temporary primary teachers to Tuam diocese, has been the large numbers, on the main panel, up to recently.

This panel had approximately 50 on it, at the beginning, but it has now been reduced to eight or nine.

This weekend national newspaper reports claimed that Tuam and Raphoe dioceses were the only ones where problems with redeployment remained.

Primary schools in most dioceses have been given the all clear to fill approximately 2,000 temporay jobs nationwide covering for career breaks, maternity leave or long term sickness.

The Church spokesperson told Galway Bay Fm that many of the large number, on the main panel for Tuam, were teachers from this area who had been working elsewhere and had asked to come back here.

The Tuam diocese spokesperson said once this main panel is cleared they can then move on to the supplementary panel.
