Lack of broadband may cost Headford 20 jobs
More than 20 ‘high end’ jobs could have been created in a North Galway town if it had been provided with high speed broadband, it has emerged this week.
A medical company was set to establish a manufacturing base in Headford but this has now been put on the back-boiler because there is no high-speed internet connection in the area.
At a time when the provision of rural employment is vital, pressure is now being put on the Government to roll out high speed broadband to rural towns and villages in County Galway.
The owner of the medical company had looked to establish in Headford but was stopped in his tracks because of the lack of broadband. He had intended creating around 20 jobs in the area.
This was revealed by Deputy Paul Connaughton Jnr who had been in consultation with the entrepreneur; they are both still trying to find ways in which to provide the jobs in Headford.
