LABOUR LEADER SCEPTICAL OF GALWAY REFUGEE SERVICE VEC TRANSFER

The Labour Leader says he doesn’t see how the Department of Education can hope to put arrangements in place for language teachers for refugees in Galway by September.
Teachers and students from the Integrate Ireland Language and Training centres around the country, including the school in Galway, are protesting outside the Dáil today in a bid to secure a commitment on redeployment from the government.
44 teachers will lose their jobs when the centre’s 11 schools close at the end of this month.
The IILT school in Galway city has been open since 2004 and teaches up to 50 pupils.
The service is to be taken over by the VEC from September.
But Galway native Eamon Gilmore says he doesn’t see how this can be achieved.
